Top Ten 2020 Halloween Ideas
Halloween is fast approaching and we have really been struggling with what to do. There are no Trunk or Treat, there is no trick or treating and definitely no parties. While my son, who will be 2, will have no problem because he doesn’t really remember Halloween. My daughter is already asking about how we plan to celebrate.
I think this year, I want to make a special day, especially since it will be a Saturday. Here are my top ten ideas to make our Schulman Family Adventure- Halloween Edition. If you want to see what we end up doing, be sure to follow me on Instagram @itsbrittanyschulman
1. Boo-berry Breakfast, Finger Food Lunch and Dinner Beware
Think blueberry pancakes in the shape of ghosts. One of the Halloween books that we have has a cute little recipe that I may try. On Saturday, we usually have a more elaborate brunch, so this will a fun twist on our existing routine. I could also see doing an interactive lunch with “finger” foods or mummy dogs. As I plan out our meals, I will let you know what the final spooky menu will be. I am currently looking up recipes on Pinterest, you should see what folks are are doing. Follow me at ItsBrittanySchulman and you will see what I mean.
2. Halloween Basket
As a twist on an Easter Basket, I plan on making a Halloween Basket. I was just in Target they had great items in the dollar bins. This is where they would get the majority of their sweets for the day. While I don’t necessarily want to pack the basket full of candy or toys they will likely forget about in a day, I am going to include special costume pajamas that they can wear that night. I already purchased both the pajama sets from Target and they are so cute! Corrina has an obsession with princesses and superheroes, so she is getting Wonder Woman and Jerod loves Toy Story so his pjs are Buzz and Woody.
3. Halloween Games
One of the things we enjoyed about going to Halloween events are the games. I was browsing in Target and they have some really cool Halloween games for as little as $6! I purchased a few and plan to turn our backyard into a Halloween game site. I think that after our quiet/nap time, we will move into playing the games. If you don’t want to purchase new games, you can always make a twist on current games or use household materials to make a game.
4. Paper Bag dress up
Before Covid, Albuquerque started a plastic bag ban. When I forgot my reusable bags, I would opt for paper because paper bags are great for all sorts of fun crafty projects. I still have a giant stack of them. So in order to use their creative skills and to let them get the opportunity to dress up, I plan letting them create costumes from paper bags. I will cut a hole in the top for their head and armholes on the side to use the paper bag as a kind of vest.
5. Halloween cookies and treat making
Again, I am consulting Pinterest for some great ideas. We already have some Halloween cookie cutters and silicon tray. We usually make cookies for Christmas, but why not make baked good all year, right? Decorating with kids is half the fun anyway.
6. Painted Pumpkins
My littles are still too little for sharp objects, so carving jack o’lanterns is out of the question. However, with all the paint we have, painting pumpkins will be so much fun! I very much see this as a pre-activity or a morning activity or a transition to painting their costumes. To be honest, my kiddos love painting so this is not outside the realm of fun for us.
7. Halloween Hunt
Just like the games, I plan on hiding different Halloween themed items around the backyard and letting the kids go out and find them, in the dark. I do not plan on purchasing anything for this, but flashlights so they can find the hidden items. I think this will be so much fun for them to seek and find things in the dark.
8. Neighborhood Haunted Walk
My neighbors are so cool. They always decorate for the seasons. We try to take walks everyday and usually go on the walking paths, but using a scavenger hunt, we will go on a walk throughout our neighborhood to find all the scary items. You can find the exact scavenger hunt on my Pinterest board.
9. Halloween Dance Party
Am I the only one not on Spotify yet? I still love Pandora AND I have been honing the perfect playlist for Halloween for years now. Who knew there were so many great songs out there? I am excited to share my spooky Halloween playlistwith the littles and boogie down to Purple People Eater and Thriller.
10. Halloween Movie Night
Last, but not least, our house is a movie house. We absolutlely love watching movies together. So, to top off the evening of spooky fun, I am planning on watching a “scary” movie. There are so many great titles on Netflix that I am sure we will all be cuddling together and enjoying our Halloween snacks.
As you can see, I have grand plans. We will see if these grand plans happen. I would love to know what you are planning to do this year. If you want to see how all this comes together, be sure to follow me on Instagram, @itsbrittanyschulman. Hope you have a spooky time too!
